, HOW CAN WE CELEBRATE DIWALI IN HONG KONG?

Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most widely observed Hindu holidays worldwide. Despite the fact that different communities may celebrate Diwali differently, the holiday celebrates the victory of light over darkness and ushers in a new year.

The five-day festival of Diwali is believed to be in honour of Rama, who came home after 14 years of exile during which he battled and slew the demon king Ravana. To celebrate his win, people used diyas (clay lamps) to light up their homes. On this day, it is also said that Lakshmi, the goddess of luck and happiness, roams the land and uses the lights to guide her.

The Diwali celebrations for this year start with Dhanteras on October 23, 2022 Sunday, Naraka Chaturdasi on October 24 (Monday), Lakshmi Puja (Day of Diwali) on October 24 (Monday), Govardhan Puja on Wednesday and ends with Bhai Dooj on October 27, 2022 Thursday. Lakshmi Puja isregarded as the most important festival day hence, Diwali 2022 is on Monday, October 24.

Six Activities That Can Celebrate Diwali In Hong Kong

  • Get Your House As Clean As A New Pin

Make a collective effort to clean up your house before Diwali. Form teams or use the “divide and conquer” strategy. Playing music and singing loudly while cleaning will make it more enjoyable. Bollywood or Punjabi dance music are examples of music that is typically connected to Diwali. This traditional, festive music is a terrific option to play while cleaning as a family as Diwali celebrates the New Year and the victory of good over evil.

  • Create Rangoli Designs

Rangoli describes patterns on the ground created with colourful sand, flower petals, or rice. Traditional Rangoli symmetrical designs were made with brick red and white powders. Work together to add decorations to certain areas of your front sidewalk or yard. Alternatively, coloured chalk is a good choice.

  • Go Visiting

To have a meal and some quality time with your family, invite your own siblings or bring your family to their home. Allow your children to enjoy time spent with their cousins, aunts, and uncles. Siblings who no longer reside in the same home are usually visited on the last day of Diwali.

  • Get On The Road With Your Family

Going on a road trip with friends and family if you enjoy travelling might be one way to celebrate Diwali. It can be a location close by where you can stay all day and all night and celebrate Diwali somewhere else. Diwali may be celebrated differently by people from different cultures or cities, and you might discover something new.

  • Visit The Mall

Diwali’s first day is dedicated to cleaning and shopping. In the belief that it will bring them luck, observers frequently purchase brand-new clothing or home things. Visit a mall or a secondhand store as a family to buy new items for each member. You don’t need to overspend or buy something just to buy it. Consider buying a new set of pots and pans for your kitchen or a new dress for each child.

  • Enjoy Reciting Mantras

Hindus chant mantras in honour of Lakshmi. These chants typically enjoin luck, riches, youth, and beauty. “Shreem” is a straightforward mantra that is said repeatedly and is thought to bring wealth. Practice reciting these ancient mantras with your family if you or your loved ones are Hindus.

There are various ways to commemorate this beautiful day, but spending time with your loved ones and appreciating the profound cultural significance of Diwali is what matters most.
