One of its most iconic traditions is dragon boat racing, where teams paddle in unison to the beat of drums, creating a lively and exciting atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This festival mainly honors the poet Qu Yuan. According to legend, ancient people threw rice balls into the river to protect his body from fish and shrimp, which became the origin of zongzi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zongzi are made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves, with a wide variety of fillings. There are savory options like pork and salted egg yolk, as well as sweet choices such as red bean paste and jujubes. Eating zongzi and racing dragon boats are traditions passed down through generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Some popular types of Zongzi include:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Jiaxing Zongzi:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Jiaxing, in Zhejiang province, is renowned for its delicious zongzi. These dumplings are basically filled with fatty pork belly and seasoned with soy sauce, giving it a rich and unique taste. One major thing they are known for in Jiaxing is their generous portions and bounty fillings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cantonese Zongzi:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This particular type of Zongzi comes in large sizes and contains varieties of ingredients. It\u2019s the perfect Zongzi hybrid as a piece contains almost all ingredients Zongzi is known for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Hokkien Zongzi:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the Zongzi that says yes to marinated pork belly and shiitake mushrooms. They are also known for containing taro and peanuts, which makes them taste differently but exquisite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Beijing Zongzi:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is for the lovers of the sweet version of the traditional dumpling. The red bean paste used for the fillings gives it that desert like taste, making it hard for even kids to say no to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Classifying Zongzi based on countries, we have:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Chinese Zongzi:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the type described earlier. They usually contain healthy animal proteins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Japanese Chimaki:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A sweet version of Zongzi also made with glutinous rice but contains sweet fillings like red bean paste or chestnuts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Thai Ba-jang:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is similar to the signature Chinese zongzi but has a Thai twist to it. They are filled with similar ingredients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Filipino Suman:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This version of rice dumpling is wrapped in banana leaves and cooked by steaming. It is usually sweetened with sugar taken with coconut milk.
