Mid-Autumn Festival is one of Hong Kong\u2019s most festive traditional celebrations. It falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, and many people spend the occasion having dinner with family and friends, sharing mooncakes, admiring the full moon and enjoying lantern displays. In 2026, Mid-Autumn Festival falls on 25 September. If you are planning to head out and enjoy the festive atmosphere this year, there are several events around Hong Kong worth checking out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From large lantern carnivals to the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, many of this year\u2019s activities are centred around Hong Kong Island and Tsim Sha Tsui. Here are a few places you can visit around the Mid-Autumn period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Places to Visit in Hong Kong for Mid-Autumn Festival 2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  • Victoria Park Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Victoria Park has long been one of Hong Kong\u2019s most popular places to enjoy Mid-Autumn lantern displays. In 2026, the Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival will run from 17 to 27 September, with different themed lanterns and traditional lantern-making elements on display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The lights will be on from 6:30 pm to 11:00 pm, and on Mid-Autumn Festival itself, 25 September, the opening hours will be extended until midnight. If you would rather avoid the biggest crowds, consider visiting on another evening before or after the festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Location: Victoria Park
    Transport: Causeway Bay Station or Tin Hau Station<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      If you want to see something with a strong local character, the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance is one of the most distinctive Mid-Autumn traditions in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      In 2026, the event will take place from 24 to 26 September. The dragon is around 67 metres long, fitted with about 12,000 incense sticks, and carried through the streets of Tai Hang by more than 300 performers. The tradition dates back to the 19th century and is now recognised as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The area can get very crowded, so it is a good idea to arrive early and check the latest crowd-control and road arrangements before you go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Location: Around Wun Sha Street and Causeway Road, Tai Hang
      Transport: Tin Hau Station is the most convenient option<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Mid-Autumn Light Installation at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        If you are looking for somewhere easy to reach and suitable for a walk after dinner, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui is a convenient option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        This year\u2019s Mid-Autumn light installation will run from 17 September to 11 October, with the lights on from 6:30 pm to 11:00 pm. On 25 September, they will stay on until midnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        The Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront is just nearby, so you can take a walk along Victoria Harbour after seeing the display without having to plan too much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          The Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront and West Kowloon Cultural District both have open areas where you can walk, admire the moon and spend time with family or friends after dinner. Compared with visiting a major lantern event, this kind of plan can feel much more relaxed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Mid-Autumn night is usually busy, so if you want to find a comfortable spot, it is worth arriving a little earlier and checking the weather before heading out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          • West Kowloon Cultural District<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            West Kowloon Cultural District is another good option if you prefer a more relaxed Mid-Autumn evening. You can have dinner nearby, then take a walk along the waterfront and enjoy the moon without filling the whole evening with activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            If you are going with family or a small group of friends, you can also bring a few mooncakes or simple snacks to share. Just remember to take your rubbish with you and keep the public area tidy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            How to Plan a Relaxed Mid-Autumn Evening<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            If you want to take in more of the festive atmosphere, you could visit the lantern displays at Victoria Park first and then head to Tai Hang for the Fire Dragon Dance. If you would rather avoid large crowds, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, West Kowloon or the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront may be easier choices for a simple evening walk and moon gazing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
