Do give presents in threes, eights, or nines. The words for these numbers sound similar to words for positive things.
Do give presents wrapped in red, especially envelopes. Red is a lucky color for gifts.
Don’t give somebody a clock, as the word is very similar to that of “funeral.” Similarly, the word for “shoes” is similar to the one for “rough,” which makes it a bad gift as well.
Don’t give presents in groups of fours. The word for “four” is similar to the word for “death.”
Don’t give white flowers as gifts. This is because white flowers are intended for mourning.
Don’t give scissors, a knife, or other sharp object as a present this Christmas. This indicates that you intend to severe the relationship you have with the recipient.
